To Work Or Live In Mumbai – Review, Tips And Warnings

Though the other cities are attracting job seekers from all over the country, Mumbai has always been one of the most sought after destinations to work in. There is something in the name that attracts the students, professionals and the others to be a part of this metropolitan city better known as the commercial capital of India. Here’s a look at what to consider before joining here.

Before being a part of the city, it is important to know the lifestyle, trends, advantages  and disadvantages of the city so that it may be decided whether the decision to shift would be

healthy or not. Under mentioned is a review of how working in Mumbai is and what are the pros and cons of working here.

Job Location vs. Accommodation vs. Salary Structure
Make sure you get enough salary before you think of shifting to Mumbai. Accommodation is expensive. The rates vary from place to place for example most of the offices are located in Andheri East so if one decides to live in Andheri East it would cost something around 15,000 INR to 25,000 INR for 1BHK (bedroom, hall, kitchen) depending upon the area as Andheri is itself widespread.

If the office is located at Navi Mumbai (another corporate area) it is relatively cheaper. Choose location if you have options to do so. For example an office in Kalyan or Thane is better than office in Churchgate or Andheri as the traffic is upstream at these places.

Negotiate as much as you can with the employer upon this. It may be

assumed that a salary of not less than 50,000 INR in hand is sufficient, provided, there is only one person that earns in the family. If there are two people earning in the house then it is comparatively easier to survive.

Public Conveyance
Auto rickshaws charge according to the card that might change the rates sooner or later as it is unpredictable when their rates would change. Presently they charge more than 11 INR per kilometre. The easier way is to choose a bus or local train but the irony is that it is difficult to enter those during the office timings.

Culture in Mumbai
Culture in Mumbai is cool. Everyone is worried about his own so no personal interference. There is least road rage and communication between people is easy and healthy. Least communal differences as mentioned over television.

Electricity/Water Supply/Mahanagar Gas Connection
In most of the places in Mumbai, there is twenty four hours of water supply and electricity supply. Also, there is gas pipeline connection system for cooking gas. This is very easy and promising utility as it seldom ends and is cheaper than the conventional LPG cylinders.

Those were a few tips and warnings for the newcomers who are about to join Mumbai as their workplace.
