Have you ever come across someone who claims to be different? There are many who think they are different, they have different identity and they are not like the rest of the world is. There are umpteen of those who are constantly in search of how to do things differently. Have you ever thought why people try to do differently? Why people try to be different?
The answer lies in the very basic of theory of ego. Being different brings a feeling of being special. John was the only student in his class who could play drums and this made himspecial. Everyone called him. He was needed at celebrations, competitions and events. Because he was different, he was popular.
There are people who would swim against the river. Despite the flow, despite the hard work they continue to swim just to prove something. What is this something? They are different. Is being different so important.
A friend of mine came with different hairstyles every time he came out ofa barber’s shop just to look different. He wanted to look different because he had none other thing to prove his unique identity.
Actually, when people try to be different they generally assume that they will catch the attraction of others easier than they could have got working similar to the group. When they get the attraction their ego is satisfied. This is a great feeling. A great author says, ‘one crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name’.
Feeling like everyone is behind you is great. It is good to see people follow you. And when it is good it means your ego is being fed properly. Had there been no ego there wouldn’t have been any feeling either good or bad. People try to be different just to feed their egos. The greater the ego, the different the people are.
