Ask a hundred students if they wanted to study abroad, more than fifty percent would say yes. Why do some students study abroad and why do the others want to? To choose a university or college outside the home country is not easy for all in India at least yet people allow their children to take this step. Is this so beneficial?
A friend of mine after working in India for two years decided to study abroad to strengthen his career. By strengthening, he would mean to get a better pay scale and a better position and not in terms ofknowledge. He went for study and when he returned many companies rejected his application by telling him that he was overqualified for that position.
None of us knew what this overqualified would mean. On the other hand there have been people who studied abroad, got a job there and continued to stay there until they finally settled where the job was. It is not that there are no goodinstitutions in India but it is believed that the one who returns from a foreign country would certainly be having some great or some extra knowledge.
Another reason for some would be to get away from their parents. Some children don’t like being stopped or being educated on their wrong doings. Such students would like to get away from their parents so that they would live a free life at least until they got a job. This way they would get sufficient money to live a life free of responsibilities.
Apart from the above mentioned reasons, there could be another reason and the very important one. There are some courses in India that still don’t have many colleges or the required degrees of that respect. To get a degree in such courses would certainly help such students gain an upper edge over the others and also help the country if they returned back.
