The biggest threat with online travel bookings or online transactions is of losing money for miscellaneous reasons. I faced a similar problem when I tried to book online air tickets and lost money that I still haven’t procured from the makemytrip.com management despite their several promises.
I booked two tickets from Delhi to Bagdogra and Bagdogra to Delhi. After I made the payment using my SBI debit card there was a message which said that such errors don’t usually occur; your booking has not been made and your money will be refunded in a few days (I don’t remember what theexact language was).
After 7 days I called makemytrip.com about the issue. They took it seriously (over phone) and assured me that the issue is under their notice and the accounts department would soon process the money into your account. They said that it would take from 48 to 72 hours for the money to refund back into the account from where the payment was made.
I called them after another 15 days when the person said that I would have to wait for at least one month from the date of payment and I need not worry. Another thing that I was told was that one month meant 30 working days i.e. excluding Saturday and Sunday.
I kept continuous follow up with leading travel website people, in which they asked meabout my bank passbook statement, copy of account transactions after I had made payment to the website and emails that I hadn’t received the money. Despite all submissions they were unable to deliver the money that was supposed to be mine.
Now I am under a state of confusion whether to keep following up for the money or to forget about the blunder made by makemytrip.com.
However I had similar cases of transactions with irctc.com and cleartrip.com but there was never a problem. No doubt I had some wonderful experiences with the website as it is easy to use and user friendly but losing money is never a good option. As of now I don’t use makemytrip.com.
My purpose here is not to offend against the website but to let the website management know where they may be going wrong (honest reviews may help them develop further) and also the other people to be cautious while making such bookings.
Debit cards and credits cards facilitate individuals with comfort of online bookings and online shopping but simultaneously there is no guarantee that the website owners won’t provide you the desired service.
