Visit Harihareshwar for the beautiful and unexplored beach and a temple where there is no rush but only peace. It feels as if you have come to an entirely different world.
Harihareshwar is located in Srivardhan in District Raigad in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The village is situated on the seaside and is better known for its beautiful beach and a peaceful temple.
How to reach
The nearest railway station from Harihareshwar is Mangaon. The distance from Harihareshwar to Mangaon is approximately 65 km and it takes almost 1.5 to 2 hours to reach from Mangaon to Harihareshwar since the road is notgood.
The nearest bus stand is in Srivardhan located at around 15 – 20 km away from Harihareshwar from where auto rickshaws/tempos are available. It takes around half an hour to reach there if not a private vehicle.
Where to stay
There are plenty of people who offer stay at their home and expect rent in return. The rates are reasonable and generally pre-booking is not required. MTDC resort is always a good option but pre-book as it is always full. There are other options too viz., Gokul, Gurugeeta etc.
There are no restaurants as such but there are certain Bhojanalaya that offer good food.
What to see
Harihareshwar temple is one of the most peaceful temples that I have ever seen. Visit the temple and sitthere for as long as you can to experience the divine.
From the temple there goes the way to a beach. The turbulence of the sea is not that high in this part of the coastline so high waves are not seen here. This is a lonely beach not explored by many.
The movement of sea water can also be experienced by sitting at the temple seats. It is clearly visible.
Don't forget to watch sunset and click some photographs of this beautiful event.
Tips & Warnings
Plan your travel such that you reach Harihareshwar before sunset. Not many people go there hence most of the activities are over by the day. You may end up in dilemma if there is a power cut when you reach there so reach there in the daytime itself.
Buses from Srivardhan to Harihareshwar are also there but not frequent. If you reach there at night the tempo/auto rickshaw may demand 250 – 300 INR (personally hired) which is very high when compared to 20 INR in the day on shared basis.
