Ego is the reason behind all your anger. Ego is the reason why you become sad. It is your ego that makes you happy. Life is all about ego. Ego brings in the aggression and ego takes you into the state of depression. If it is all about those three letters EGO, why not drop it? Wait. Should that really be dropped? What is life without ego? Think twice before self-improvement.
Ego is actually the importance that an individual regards itself with. The level of that importance varies and so does the degree of egoism. It is this self-importance that turnsa person into an egoist.
As per Dale Carnegie everyone wants importance. If this importance is not given there is some reaction. For example you get angry on someone and the person doesn’t react. That person pretends as if he didn’t hear you. What would you do?
Most of us would shout louder. If shouting loud doesn’t work, we may even think of getting violent. Why does all that happen? Because you sought attention of that person by getting angry on him but you didn’t get some. You felt like insulted and decided to gain the attention of that person and this is how small things become big issues.
Dropping your ego means dropping the thought that you are important. On ahigher level (or I should say the basic level) dropping the thought of your existence. The saints become like that and they never feel insulted. In Ramayana, Tulsidas has described Rama on several occasions as the one with no feeling of happiness and simultaneously no feeling of sadness.
This is the best definition of an egoless person. When this stage is achieved there is least to worry about. And here comes another question. If there is no ego, no feeling of self-importance can a person rise high in life?
Ego has often helped people achieve what they wanted in their lives. Even the greatest of people had greatest of egos. Maharishi Vishwamitra became a Brahmarshi because of his ego. Should you really drop your ego?
If you want to get rid of every kind of emotion, get rid of your ego. If you want to enjoy every step of life and feel the life, try to live with it. The thoughts may differ but ego is a part of life and once you learn to balance your ego and you learn how to direct your ego, life is enjoyable.
